Explore the Horizon Field Project in partnership with Jordan Kent
Wilsonville Little League's letter from the Board President
Our league has seen quick and substantial growth since we established Wilsonville Little League in 2016. Our first season we had 238 kids playing baseball and the upcoming 2020 spring season will see a projected 370 kids playing baseball. Meanwhile, the number of fields we have access to has not grown and we compete for the same field spaces with many other youth sports organizations. There is a real squeeze on all of the organizations to find field space.
The opportunity to partner with Horizon Christian High School comes at a perfect time as we find ourselves needing to get creative to provide enough time on baseball fields to benefit all of the children playing in our program.
With similar values and goals for kids, it was an immediate match in terms of philosophy.
Fortunately, since our field usage needs do not overlap with the high school; the partnership with Horizon makes perfect sense. Not only are we excited to add a field that supports all three field dimensions we use in LL (60’, 70’ and 90’) it will have artificial turf on the infield allowing us to get more practice time and games played during wet weather, as well as significantly increase the spectator experience.
We hope this will be the first of many field additions; as we move forward and continue to offer safe, fun, leadership and skill building opportunities for kids playing baseball.
